July 5, 2010 was officially the first day of Camp Joy! We had 25 kids for the first day and expect the numbers to grow up to 60. The kids started showing up around 8:30 and camp started right at 9 with opening program, we used this time to explain the schedule and camp rules.
We sent the kids through their class rotation of bible, art and discovery. Classes went very well for everyone and the kids enjoyed all the activities that we had. My class was fun and the kids got a trip out of our balloon powered zip line vehicle things.
I cannot play soccer to save my life. The kids of Copan can play soccer very well. Playing soccer with the kids made me look like I have no competitive sport bones in my body. (This is why I snowboard and long board)
I am so happy that the first day of camp is down and done with, it’s nice to know what to expect for my next classes and I fell like I can be more prepared for the age groups that I am working with in each of my class rotations.
Camp was over around 1 and the day went really fast, we had the afternoon off but spent it sleeping under the fans in the apartment. Monday nights it’s worship night at our house so we had a worship session together, which is always amazing.
It’s so wonderful here I can’t believe I have been here so long already, it feels like not that long but also at the same time it feels like a really long time. It’s weird.
I feel like the super long packed days are harder to write about than the days with less in them so I am going to leave it here :)
